British Swim School Opens New Locations in Pensacola

The premier survival and stroke development swim lesson provider excited to prevent drowning disasters for families with children

Every year in Florida, enough children to fill three to four preschool classrooms drown before their fifth birthday. In fact, the state leads the country in drowning deaths of children ages 1 through 4 years old. It is Kimberly Graybill’s mission to change those statistics.

The Pensacola mom recently opened British Swim School to help other parents in the area and teach their children, as early as 3 months old, swimming strokes and water survival skills.

“I’ve lived my life on the beaches of Florida and raised my four children in the water,” Kimberly said. “As a mother and Floridian, I know how important swim stroke survival is in these waters. When my husband Aaron and I had the opportunity to follow our passion and open a British Swim School franchise here, we jumped at the chance.”

Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning.

Devastating News on Drownings:

  • Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States among children aged 14 or younger.
  • Seventy-seven percent of drowning deaths involve children under age 5. (American Academy of Pediatrics)
In a recent survey by the USA Swimming Foundation, 87 percent of swimmers with NO or LOW ability plan to go to a swimming facility this summer.
  • The same survey reveals 34 percent of these NO to LOW ability swimmers plan to swim more than 10 times this summer.
  • African American children between ages 5–19 are 5.5 times more likely to drown in a pool than white children of the same ages. (USA Swimming Foundation)

British Swim School of Pensacola teaches water safety and survival first, and swimming skill development second. Students are placed in classes based on skill level, with specific objectives, an approach not found in session driven programs.

Classes began on Thursday, January 30, at the Pensacola Beach Hilton (12 Via de Luna Drive, Pensacola Beach) and Hilton Garden Inn at Fort Walton Beach (1297 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Fort Walton Beach). Both are year-round pools, making them ideal for the British Swim School program.
